Cryogenic Heat Exchangers
Fine copper meshes are the capillary wicking material in the majority of heat pipes. We laser cut these meshes into special shapes for the screen mesh wicks in copper heat pipes. Cutting these capillary wicking materials on the bias or stacking several layers of different copper meshes has resulted in improved heat pipe wick structures. This group of wick meshes have square openings is between 140 to 43 microns (100 mesh to 325 mesh). The heat pipe industry finds copper meshes below 105 microns (145 mesh to 325 mesh) most useful. Some cryogenic heat exchangers, cryocoolers, coldheads, and sterling engines employ stacks of screen discs that we can cut from this mesh.
