Industrial Metal Wire Mesh & Hardware Cloth

Features & Uses

Metal mesh consists of wires that are either welded or woven together to form a grid. It’s available in stainless steel, aluminum, copper, bronze, brass, and more.

Wire mesh is offered in various forms such as panels, rolls, and discs, and has an extensive range of industrial applications, including separating, screening, shielding, and reinforcing. These products come in opening sizes and can be crafted with different weave patterns to achieve specific flow rates for various industrial processes.

Manufacturers commonly produce wire mesh using two methods: weaving and welding.

Woven Wire Products vs. Welded Wire Mesh

The key difference between woven and welded wire mesh is that woven mesh is made by interlacing wires in a crisscross pattern, allowing for flexibility and adaptability. In contrast, welded mesh involves welding the wire intersections to create a rigid, durable structure that maintains its shape.

Hardware Cloth vs. Metal Wire Mesh

Hardware cloth is a subcategory of industrial metal wire mesh products. Also known as galvanized welded wire mesh, it has a zinc coating to resist corrosion. Hardware cloth is more precise, perfect for light-duty applications such as home improvement, pest control, gardening, and construction.

Metal Wire Mesh Discs

Also known as filter discs or pack discs, metal wire mesh discs are circular filters made from woven or welded wires. They may be composed of non-fraying singular or multiple layers, with weave patterns specific to the industrial use. For instance, Twilled Dutch Weave and Plain Dutch Weave are used in pressure filtration of gases and liquids.

Depending on the industry, manufacturers add finish coatings to increase corrosion resistance.

FAQs

What load ratings and structural capacities are available for welded wire mesh panels?

Load capacity is dependent on wire diameter, mesh opening size, material grade, and how the panel is supported. We offer precision woven mesh in a wide range of wire gauges, from 1 to 40, with custom configurations for high-load industrial applications. When you request a quote, share your load requirements, span dimensions, and mounting method so we can determine the right product for your facility.

Which wire mesh materials offer the best corrosion resistance?

For harsh factory or outdoor conditions, T-304 and T-316 stainless steel offer excellent corrosion resistance in high-moisture or chemical environments. For chloride-heavy or marine conditions, T-316 is often the best option. Galvanized wire mesh has a cost-effective zinc coating that offers moderate corrosion protection. Aluminum mesh naturally resists oxidation and is ideal for lighter-duty applications.

What mesh opening sizes and wire diameters are available?

Mesh opening sizes range from ultra-fine micron-level filtration up to several inches for heavy industrial grating. Wire diameter (gauge) affects structural strength and open area percentage. Finer wire maximizes flow, while heavier wire maximizes load bearing. The right specifications will depend on your application.

What are typical lead times for standard stock vs. custom orders?

Standard stock items generally ship within 1-3 business days. Custom orders, such as non-standard sizing or large-volume runs, vary based on specifications and current production schedules.

As a distributor of precision woven mesh, we provide transparent time estimates for all custom orders upfront so you can plan your operations accordingly.
