Is wire mesh food-safe or NSF compliant?

It depends on the material and certification. Stainless steel wire mesh, especially Type 304 or 316, is commonly considered food safe and is widely used in food processing applications. However, wire mesh is not NSF compliant unless it is specifically certified by NSF.

Materials such as galvanized steel, carbon steel, copper, brass, or coated meshes are generally not recommended for direct food contact.
