Wire mesh is made from a variety of metals, selected for strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion. The most common materials are stainless steel (especially Grades 304 and 316), galvanized steel, and carbon steel.

Depending on the application, wire mesh may also be made from aluminum for its lightweight and corrosion resistance, copper for conductivity, or brass and bronze for decorative or filtration uses. For more demanding environments, specialty metals like nickel alloys or titanium are sometimes used.
