How to Cut a Wire Mesh Screen
To avoid frayed edges, select the right tool. For mesh with smaller diameters and softer metals, heavy duty scissors or tin snips will suffice. However, stronger wire mesh with larger openings will be more likely to fray, particularly if the wire isn’t welded at intersections. You may need to use an angle grinder with a cutting wheel or a rotary tool to cut such wire mesh.
To cut, place the wire mesh screen on a stable surface. Clamp down heavy mesh to keep it stable when using the rotary tool or angle grinder. For all types of metal mesh, work slowly and avoid bending or twisting the material as you work. To finish, smooth sharp edges with a file or sandpaper to prevent injuries and fraying.
