PTFE Coated Wire Mesh

TWP Inc. carries PTFE coated wire mesh in a variety of sizes and weaves. When stainless steel mesh products have a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating, it means the material is finished with a thin non-stick fluoropolymer layer. The finished product is hydrophobic, autoclavable, chemically inert, extremely durable, and will hold up under very high operating temperatures. PTFE coated mesh is also exceptionally resistant to chemicals, corrosion, and abrasion, and it has a low coefficient of friction.

Features & Uses

PTFE is a dark green non-stick coating usually applied to stainless mesh products in a layer approximately one millimeter thick. The green color of the PTFE coating is traditional for this type of coated mesh. It will vary among mesh rolls and possibly within a single roll, but color variation does not have any impact on the performance or effectiveness of the mesh.

It holds up under temperatures of up to 500 °F, which is higher than any other fluoropolymer coating. Even with very fine mesh weaves, PTFE will not “bridge” any of the openings between the wires. The finished mesh product is also easy to clean and will not maintain chemical pollutants or other residue on the surface after they pass through.

PTFE coated mesh is resistant to:

  • Adhesion

  • Corrosion

  • Chemicals

  • Resins

  • High temperatures

  • Concentrated acids

  • Water

  • Alcohols

  • Aldehydes

  • Bases

  • Esters

  • Aliphatic

  • Aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons

  • Ketones

  • Mineral and vegetable oils

  • Oxidizing agents

  • UV exposure

  • Saturated steam

PTFE is a food-grade coating, but this type of wire mesh can be used in a wide variety of industries for several different applications including coalescing filtration. PTFE is a hydrophobic coating, meaning when water passes through PTFE wire mesh, it will bead onto the surface, allowing other substances to pass through. It is effective in separating water from various kinds of fuel and is often used in the manufacturing industry to filter liquids and gases.

PTFE coated mesh also has a wide range of industrial and scientific uses such as paper fabrication and petroleum purification. In addition to filtration and purification, this type of mesh is often used to separate and dry small particles. Because PTFE coated mesh allows for air to pass through while repelling moisture, it is sometimes used for water-resistant speakers, microphones, and other devices with similar requirements.

Weave Types & Sizing Options

Our PTFE coated mesh has a plain weave (over one, under one) and meets the ANSI/AWCI-01 standard specification for wire fabric, ASTM E 2016-99 for industrial woven wire cloth, and RR-W-360 for industrial wire fabric. 100 and 200 weaves can be cut with heavy-duty scissors, and TWP Inc. can also precision-cut PTFE discs, rectangles, and other shapes as needed.

Stainless Steel PTFE Wire Mesh

If you’re interested in the stainless steel PTFE wire mesh from TWP Inc. and would like to test or inspect the product, we can provide small (1 inch by 1 inch) samples. We offer coated mesh discs, squares, rectangles, and full rolls as well as custom laser-cut pieces. Please keep in mind that minimum order quantities will apply for PTFE mesh. Also, while the green coating will be mostly uniform, we can’t guarantee it covers 100 percent of the mesh surface.

At TWP Inc., we are an industry leader in providing wire mesh and laser cutting services. While we can act as a resource and provide top-notch products and services, we encourage our customers to independently determine which wire mesh products are suitable for their applications.
