Galvanized Wire Mesh

Galvanized metal mesh is extremely versatile and modestly priced, which makes it perfect for use in thousands of different applications. Aside from its adaptability and attractive pricing, our galvanized mesh wire is corrosion resistant and has a longer life than that of plain steel wire mesh due to its zinc coating.

Features & Uses

To choose the right galvanized mesh, you’ll need to know the needs of your application and then choose the best fit. Aside from selecting the appropriate material, determining the suitable mesh opening size and diameter wire is critical.

Galvanized Metal for DIY & Home

Galvanized wire mesh is a key component in many applications as well as the go-to material for DIY jobs. The material is also a perfect choice for those embarking on a home improvement project or a landscaping or garden task.

Uses in building and construction include:

As you can see, the corrosion resistance and relatively low cost make galvanized mesh rolls perfect for myriad applications and projects.

How is Galvanized Metal Made?

The galvanization process uses dipping or electrolytic reactions to process the iron or steel wire. The hot dipping process is where the mesh is dipped into extremely hot molten zinc causing a zinc-iron or zinc-steel alloy to be formed. This reaction covers the surface of the mesh with a strong and protective coating.

There’s also cold galvanizing, called the electrolytic process, which uses an organic solvent of zinc particles and paints the mesh surface. The solvent then evaporates, leaving the zinc particles on the metal where the reaction between the two results in a coating.

More About Our Products

Our website provides detailed descriptions and pictures of galvanized mesh wire. For someone unfamiliar with wire mesh terminology, 2 mesh has two wires in each direction in a square inch. You could easily pass a pencil through the openings.

Galvanized mesh is a stiff material but may be bent by hand and has little spring back after being bent or formed. All of the meshes may be folded completely over without breaking. In an outdoor environment, the lifespan could be as little as six months to one year in a more wet climate such as the seashore and from 20 years and up in dry desert conditions.

The lifetime of galvanized mesh is hard to predict and depends on air quality, atmospheric humidity, the type of materials, and chemicals or soil it comes into contact with. If longevity and a clean appearance are top priorities, you should consider a woven or welded stainless steel mesh. The color of galvanized mesh starts as a shiny silver but over time the color will become a dull gray with white powdery corrosion.
