More information about Micronic Wire Mesh
OVERVIEW
TWP INC offers precisely woven stainless steel filter cloth. This cloth is provided in two types, which differ in appearance and application. Square weaves (PSW, TSW) are thin meshes with tiny square holes. Light passes through these. Dutch weaves (TDW and PDW) are thick meshes with small curved tunnel shaped openings. Light doesn’t pass well through these meshes.Micronic Wire Mesh - Examples of Uses
- Particle separation and sifting - use PSW and TSW weave types
- Fuel filters - use TSW
- Hydraulic fluid filters - use TDW and PDW weave types
- Gas diffusers - use TDW and PDW weave types single layer or stacked
- Breather vents
Micronic Wire Mesh - Cutting
Micronic wire meshes are easily cut with sharp hand tools. Choose your metal, weave type and opening size- Metals
- Alloy Type 304 or Type 316
- T304 is the basic stainless alloy, and unless otherwise specified it is assumed that this type is acceptable. Also called 18-8 due to 18% chromium and 8% nickel. T304 melts at 2600 degrees F (1430 C) but its maximum recommended temperature for continuous service is 1450 degrees F. (790 C) and is useful for intermediate service up to 1650 degrees F (900 C). Its' uses include: sorting and screening of abrasives, liquids, powders and other solids.
- T316 is a special stainless alloy due to the addition of 2% molybdenum. This increases its resistance to corrosion by salts, acids and seawater. Also called 18-10 due to 18% chromium and 10% nickel. T316 melts at 2500 degrees F (1375 C) but its maximum recommended temperature for continuous service is 1500 degrees F. (815 C) and is useful for intermediate service up to 1650 degrees F (900 C). Its' uses include: processing of oils, chemicals, food and pharmaceuticals.
- In general, T316 can always be substituted for T304.

- Weave type
- Micronic (Dutch Weaves PDW and TDW) - The dutch weaves (PDW, TDW) are thick, strong; light-tight meshes which are used primarily in fluid, vacuum, and pressure filtration of liquids and gases. These are woven to precise tolerances and their openings are actually tiny curved, triangular tunnels.
- Micronic (Square Weaves PSW and TSW) - The square weaves (PSW, TSW) are woven with straight through square holes, are thin and flexible, and are often used in the separation and classification of solid particles. These square weaves have very high flow rates and square see through openings.
- Opening Size
- Absolute Filtration Rating - A measure of retention, expressed in microns, that specifies the equivalent diameter of the smallest particle from which the filter has a retention of 100%. In actual practice, most manufacturers assign absolute ratings on the basis of retention in the range from 98% - 99.999999%.
- Nominal Filter Rating - A measure of retention, expressed in microns, that specifies the equivalent diameter of the smallest particle for which the filter has a retention somewhere in the range of 60-90%. Nominal filter rating is imprecise.
